Way to go Monika! Let’s tell the truth to our kids, you are right! they are smart!!! When given the proper tool and knowledge to work with, kids can make healthier decisions!
I really appreciate all that you are talking about in this piece! It is such a blessing to have so many women come out and speak about such a “taboo” topic. I say lets not make it taboo anymore!
“The message needs to be where the youth are, and that’s in school.” I can’t think of a more powerful statement. Children are flooded with misrepresentations of sex in media, music, school, everywhere. It may make kids uncomfortable to hear about and the teachers to talk about it, but the truth is if it makes you uncomfortable you aren’t ready. Children need to know about the risks of sex and not just the glorification depicted by society. In 9th grade some medical students showed a PowerPoint of females and males with STI’s. They were graphic, horrible, and uncomfortable. But I will never forget it. Our kids need to know that truth about sex and the consequences.
