SC House Judiciary Subcommittee

Tell Them members came out in droves for the fight against the “Right to Life Act” this week. The SC House Judiciary Subcommittee received 400 emails from Tell Them members, and we were able to pack the room with supporters who wore “VOTE NO ON H. 3526″ stickers.

After a very heated hour long meeting, NO VOTE WAS TAKEN!! We had lined up so many testamonies that we were able to run out the clock. That means that the bill has not passed the subcommittee, and we’ve been assured that it won’t come up again in the House this year.

If you’d like to thank the Representatives who helped us keep this bill in committee, please click here.

  1. I’m so glad you ladies filmed this – but you’re right, Kelly, it was AWESOME to watch in person! I am so excited it looks like the bill is staying in committee, and I hope you ladies at Tell Them are proud of all the hard work you put into fighting this disgusting piece of legislation! I know SC still has a long way to go in the fight for rights, but it’s wonderful to win something!

  2. I think my favorite part is when the speaker is talking about how he does NOT believe that the Supreme Court’s laws are the law of the land, that God’s laws are above man’s laws, and then turns around and give a Constitutional argument for his position. You can’t discredit the source and then quote from it!

  3. Pretty incredible, this theocracy we live in! Great job, everyone! We outnumbered the supporters at least 2-1. Good video; wish we could have a video of Rep. Barfield’s sermon…

Happy to see this bill die; hopefully we will never see the other two reach the floor either.

  4. My favorite part is “it is not time for this bill” Amen! Even though the bill died we all have so much work to do! But it is nice to know that the petty-ness of the SC Government allowed them to get nothing done yesterday but to kill a bill. Congrats!

  5. We can all breathe a very momentary sigh of relief as this Act was shelved. Kudos to all who contributed to its demise. What continues to be of concern is the success of the “incremental approach” at chipping away, piece by piece, at what constitutes access to safe abortion care for all women, including adolescents. The approach has been used methodically, strategically and often done fairly “quietly” such that it doesn’t cause the public outcry that extremist proposals, such as the Right to Life Act, provoke. That makes all of us need to be ever vigilant about upcoming proposals. Thanks to Tell Them for helping us with doing just that.

  6. Debbie- I couldn’t have said it better myself! The scary part about this is that they know where to put their efforts- and they’re focusing on the Two Trip Requirement Bill and Born Alive. We have to be ready for these bills!

  7. I love hearing inspirational stories like these. It shouldn’t have been an issue that was even thought about, but at least we stopped it.
