Betty White Goes On My List
Living in South Carolina comes with its own set of unique and interesting questions. There are things that I think about daily that never really crossed my mind until I moved to SC. Where should I go for the best Sweet Tea? How should I dress to go out in 100+ degree heat? How long will it take for me to drive from the northern mountains in Gaffney to the beach in Charleston? Finding the answers to these questions has been a series of great adventures.
However, the question I was asking myself last night was less than pleasurable: who is going to make fun of my state tonight?
The answer: BETTY WHITE!
While watching the Daily Show last night, I saw this typical tirade on our state. He called us “American’s Whoopee Cushion!” I laughed, particularly on the ”Grit Gravybiscuit, Nascar Johnson, Robert E. Leibovitz” comment.

But then, I was taken aback when Betty White joined in Jon Stewart’s mocking of South Carolina!

Betty! I’m hurt… OK, not really. Again, I laughed as I added Betty White to the growing list of people using South Carolina as a punching bag.
But I can’t believe that our elections are really the largest issue facing the country. While entertaining, there are numerous legitimate questions about last week’s election that I want answered. Not that SC Democrats didn’t deserve the tongue lashing Mr. Stewart gave out- they did. But he gave some pretty good examples of why this might not have been the cleanest of elections.
Regardless of any possible wrongdoing in our elections, isn’t there a giant oil spill going on in the gulf? Isn’t there a global sporting event going on in South Africa? I mean, come on, the Tony Awards were held this weekend- Denzel Washington, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Scarlett Johansson all won! Don’t any of those stories beat out South Carolina?
Anyway, thanks for the laughs, Jon Stewart. Betty White- you’ve been added to the list. Can we move on now?

Bless your heart, the show is on The Comedy Channel… The Comedy Channel… The Comedy Channel….
Haha…. I know. And I really do enjoy laughing right along with everyone else.
As a life long South Carolinian with geneological roots tracing back to the early eighteenth century when SC was the center of prestige, power, and honor in the early years of history, I welcome the humor. The voters in this state are still fighting battles than have long since cooled in the minds of the vast portion of Americans. It’s their ignorance that places the people in power who continue to vote for the things that hurt them the most, the things that allow such atocities as the deficit, the oil spill, the wars, and the economic recession. Maybe constanlty being the butt of the joke will help to empower the people in this state who do think without seeing “red” to stand up and be heard. Take a look at the primary ballot for the democrats in SC, no one had the balls to run. Bring it on, Jon.
