Abstinence-only programs provide only a fraction of the information young people need in order to keep themselves healthy. Comprehensive sex education programs in conjunction with abstinence programs designed to delay the onset of sexual activity provide the proper basis for our young people.

Why am I passionate about responsible reproductive health policies?

South Carolina statistics read like a laundry list of reproductive health problems. We currently have the 3rd highest rates of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in the country, and 9th highest rates of AIDS cases. In fact the Centers for Disease Control has called South Carolina one of the Top 10 HIV “hot spots” in the country.
